This project consisted of around five designers and a handful of developers. The main goal was to create a lighter weight web based version of desktop software. The visual design was a top priority for this project because we wanted the interface to fit in with the framework that it was going in to but at the same time have a unique fingerprint of its own.
The process for the UI Theme went extremely fast. We had very little time to create a very attractive mobile friendly user interface. As a team we planned out the major interactions and started to create some patterns that we could all lean on. For the visual design, I created a UI style guide for every known element of the interface that could be shared with the team and implemented as necessary.
A lot of the visual design decisions were made with developers in mind. We were using a new technology under the hood and that required some tight communication between design and development.
After coming up with two themes — a light and a dark theme — it was my job to relay the visual design intent and pass along a carefully crafted high fidelity mockup to my teammates so that we could rapidly put together some storyboards for a pitch to the customer.
